It was the calm before the storm today. I hear the wind getting up now, but the day itself has been mild and still.
I had booked to go on a Guided Mushroom Walk, organised by the Stornoway Trust. It was a very interesting couple of hours, walking around the castle grounds, gathering various samples of fungi and presenting them to the guides for identification. We learned about brittle gills, true gills, pores, spikes and wrinkles. How to look at the tree the fungi was growing beside, how far we could peel the top back, and the colour of spores. All in all it was a fascinating morning. I don't think for a minute I could confidently identify many species, let alone any edible ones, but I know a lot more about wild fungi now than I did a breakfast time. Which was nothing.
It was nice being out on such a lovely morning, despite the midges. Good bunch of people there too.
It was mid afternoon when I got home, and I was quite tired, so not much else achieved. Dinner was gammon steak, chips, broccoli and a fried egg.
Early night to read my book and hide from the state of the country. Bloody Tories.
